Some of my friends ITance expressed concern about the impact of recent economic recession on the economy of India and in particular the outsourcing industry. They have views of the negative impacts but have a slightly contrary view, as I believe a recession is really great time to start a new business. Enjoy the lack of foam now, when the talent, resources are cheap, and you can hear yourself. In fact, whenever there subcontract a recession more people, not less. Organizations want to take costs wherever they can.
What happens to the host countries, where the outsourced work is going?
These countries show trends in the demolition of wage growth, cost of living, house prices etc, do more outsourcing services cheaper for foreign companies, such as U.S., UK, etc. Besides recent exchange rate raise the profit margin for foreign companies.
Fundamentally, the outsourcing market is strong and will not change because of this financial crisis. Western companies are started to see India as a strategic place to not only outsource the research of higher value product, design etc, but to sell their own products and services. In the long term once the dust settles in the U.S. financial market, the Indian IT and BPO companies will be in good position to attract more businesses to outsource work to U.S..
Recent trends in the outsourcing industry in India suggests a strategic shift of low-cost services to higher value services such as KPO. This kind of trend will continue and the Indian outsourcing industry will add a new dimension to the market outsourcing.
